The Daily Mail are reporting that Crystal Palace have identified Jack Grealish as a possible transfer target this summer. The Aston Villa man has had no shortage of attention but the club may finally have to cash in at the end of the season.
What’s the word?
Grealish has been attracting the eyes of the Premier League for a considerable time now and only last summer a potential move to Tottenham fell through.
Spurs initially bid £25m for the player, only for Villa to stand firm and say he was not for sale at any price.
However, the Midlands club could now be fielding interest from Crystal Palace too, who according to The Daily Mail are eyeing him as Wilfried Zaha’s possible replacement should the Ivorian leave.
Grealish has been vital to Vila’s play-off charge in the Championship and has been a man transformed under Dean Smith, something that’s seen his stock rise even higher over the course of the current campaign.
Selling Grealish can fund future success
There’s no denying selling Grealish would look like a serious lack of ambition but any possible sale this summer does have its benefits.
Of course, if Villa get promoted then they’d have a greater chance of holding onto him, but if they did sell him then they’d have plenty of funds to reinvest in their squad.
The Villans already have plenty of creativity in midfield with John McGinn and Conor Hourihane, and as such, selling Grealish would enable them to focus on other areas that need greater improvement.
Loan stars Tammy Abraham, rated at £13.5m on Transfermarkt, and Tyrone Mings would both be stellar additions to a newly-promoted Premier League side and making their temporary stays permanent should be high on the Midlands outfit’s list of priorities.
Selling Grealish may look bad, but should they go up, it could help ensure top-flight stability and would also finance the possibility of building a better all-round team.
