Having made no reinforcements in the position in the summer transfer window, it’s fair to say Ole Gunnar Solskjaer perhaps now looks at his midfield options with a tinge of regret. Injuries have depleted his squad considerably, with Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba’s lay-offs meaning Fred and Nemanja Matic are his two most senior personnel in that deeper role.
It is therefore no surprise to see Manchester United linked with a host of midfielders in light of the January transfer window, and one man who has been touted with a move to Old Trafford, is Emre Can. The Juventus man is best known on these shores for his time with the Red Devils’ arch-rivals Liverpool, but according to ESPN, that hasn’t stopped the German from coming up on their radar.

And after hearing the links to the midfielder, fans of the Manchester side took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on their rumoured transfer target, voicing their frustrations at potentially signing someone who was previously let go by Liverpool.
A couple of fans even felt that the interest in the German showed that United have stopped being a big club, with one supporter in particular labelling it as “small team mentality”.
Some supporters however appeared to be far more positive about the reported interest, suggesting that Can’s Premier League experience would help and that he is better than what they already have.
Still only 25, Can is arguably yet to hit the peak years of his career. Whilst he may have been let go by Liverpool, he did end up joining Juventus – hardly a step down at any rate. With his previous experience of playing in the Premier League, he could represent a shrewd acquisition for United.
Meanwhile, this Manchester United star’s nightmare display against Arsenal give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a major concern.
